Artist's statement:
"I had wanted to do a bear for some time, but not the aggressive poses one often sees portrayed in sculpture. It was early autumn (apple season) and it suddenly came to me that a bear would certainly enjoy a bushel of freshly picked apples. Being omnivores and opportunists of the first order, this bear has come upon an unexpected bounty in the season during which it must eat almost continuously in order to put on sufficient fat reserves for the winter. A tipped-up basket with a few fallen apples made for a fun title!"
